Social Entrepreneurship considers those who are the entrepreneur/founder behind an institution -- most likely a not-for-profit institution, but also perhaps a for-profit business set up with social/environmental goals at the heart of its activities. Social entrepreneurs could either be using an enabling emerging technology (i.e., information technology or communications) to achieve a social/environmental purpose or could be working with a particular set of new technologies (i.e., biotech, materials, energy, space, etc.) designed explicitly with a positive social/environmental impact in mind.
